State Legislators send letter to Congressional leaders advocating for spent fuel solutions

Several Assemblymembers and State Senators have sent a letter urging Congressional leaders to take action and provide offsite solutions for spent nuclear fuel. The letter highlights the federal government’s legal and contractual obligation to provide a home for spent fuel within the state and 33 others across the nation.

The federal government was required by law and executed contracts with nuclear power providers to begin taking possession of and disposing spent nuclear fuel back in 1998. Today – more than two decades later – it has not yet fulfilled its legal and contractual obligations.

We applaud this effort to advocate for spent fuel solutions and appreciate our State Legislators’ attention to this important issue.
